At the start of this year, Pope Francis said that having a devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary isn’t just something that is nice or good to do, but is an obligation in the life of a Christian.

“The gift of the Mother, the gift of every mother and every woman, is most precious for the Church, for she too is mother and woman.” the Pope said.
“Where the Madonna is at home the devil does not enter; where there is the Mother, disturbance does not prevail, fear does not win.”

May is the Month of Mary

For centuries, the Catholic Church has set aside the entire month of May to honor Mary, Mother of God. Not just a day in May, mind you, but the entire month. We honor her and esteem her because she is the Mother of God. As Mother – your mother, my mother, everyone’s mother –she cares for all of us day-in-and-day-out without fail, interceding for us in even the tiniest matters. As the Ten Commandments state, we only have one God whom we worship, adore, and glorify.   We therefore do not worship Mary. Rather, we pray to her, asking for her intercession and for her to take our petitions to the Father (just as the video mentioned the Queens of old did).
